Caring for your Hartmont Candle

At Hartmont, our candles are handcrafted with dedication and premium ingredients. Here are some tips to help you fully enjoy their long-lasting quality.

Trimming your wick
• All of our cotton wicks are 100% cotton and metal free.
• For best results, always trim the wick to 1⁄4” before burning.

Keep candles free of debris and matches. To prevent fading and maintain the true colour of your candle,
keep out of direct sunlight. Please remove all packaging, and trim the wick before burning. For complete
burn instructions see the bottom of the candle.

Loving your Hartmont soy candle
• Your Hartmont soy candle is designed to burn at its most optimum scent throw, glow and cleanest burn.
This means it will intially leave some wax along the upper shell of the glass container. As the candle burns,
this wax will melt away.
• A pure soy candle will have a snowflake-like look, called frosting, that appears in some places on the
sides of the glass container. This is your proof positive that you have a 100% soy candle.

Hugging your Hartmont pillar candle
Hugging your candle will protect against wax spills and will help it last longer, burn better,
and continue looking good.
• Hug your candle only after it has been snuffed.
• Wait approximately 10 minutes, or until the wax pool is cool, but not hardened.
• CAUTION the wax pool is extremely hot when the candle is first snuffed, so please remember to wait until the
wax pool has cooled.
• Carefully fold in the top edge of the candle.

Burning your Hartmont pillar candle
• Always snuff your candle flame instead of blowing it out.
• When only 1⁄2” of the candle remains, it’s time to replace it.

Burning your Hartmont Glow/Fiesta candle

- Trim curly wick before lighting to 1/4 inch
- Keep wick trimmed to 1/4 inch and centered for optimum burn.
- Recommended burn time is 4-5 hours at a time for optimum results.
-  If the palm wax side appears to be melting, blow out candle, center wick, let wax harden, trim wick and relight.
- When you get to the bottom of the candle and all the soy wax is gone, it is time to save the palm wax on the bottom of the candle and extinguish the candle.  Now you can re-use it with tealights.
- With the square 4 oz candle, one tealight will work nicely inside the candle.  Different companies have different strengths to their tealight wicks.  If you are not using a Hartmont tealight, just watch the heat being emitted from the tealight that you are using to make sure that it doesn't melt the palm wax.  If it does, the tealight is too hot and should not be used.
- With the 6 oz hourglass candle, because of the shape of the glass and it's height, it is recommended that a empty, used tealight cup be turned upside down inside the candle when all the soy wax is gone.  Then put the tealight that will be burning on top of it and light.  This gets the heat from the tealight flame up and out of the middle part of the candle where the tealight may be more prone to melting the palm wax sides.

Burning your Hartmont Aurora Candle
- The wooden wick requires no trimming at the beginning of use or throughout the candle's lifetime.
- Recommended lighting is a 5-7 second blast of flame from a bbq lighter with the flame from the propane lighter pointed at the wooden wick and the wax surrounding the wick.  Creating a small melt pool of wax will help with the wick staying lit.
- When near the end of the candle life, it is best to let the candle burn itself out rather than leave a small amount of wax and expect the wick to light easily for the final burn.  A safety clip at the bottom of the wood wick will prevent the wick from lighting again once the wax has hardened.
- If you have had to light the candle for a short period and not get a full melt pool, you may be left with a wax edge that you suspect will drown out the wick.  Under test burns, when this happens, doing an extra long burn on your next time of use makes the sides melt away without drowning the wick.  This may take a few burns before the full melt pool look is achieved again.
